Tijdens deze cursus leren de jongeren hoe beslissingen binnen de gemeente worden genomen, welke rol de raad speelt en hoe zij hun verhalen kunnen gebruiken om een verschil te maken.
Zo combineert Press creatief verhalen maken met een belangrijk maatschappelijk inzicht: jongeren leren niet alleen vertellen wat er speelt in hun omgeving, maar ook hoe ze daar actief in mee kunnen denken en handelen binnen de democratie. Learning About Democracy Through Storytelling
An important part of Press is that young people don’t just collect stories about their surroundings—they also learn how to place these stories in the broader context of society. When citizens are dissatisfied, it’s essential that young journalists understand how the municipal council works and how democracy functions.
To support them, Press receives a special democracy course from Noor Kanters, an expert affiliated with the registry of the municipality of Tilburg. During this course, the young participants learn how decisions are made within the municipality, the role of the council, and how they can use their stories to make a difference.
In this way, Press combines creative storytelling with important civic knowledge: young people not only learn to report on what’s happening in their environment but also how to actively engage and contribute within democracy.
